The holidays are a time where we all wish to spend precious moments with our families, friends and loved ones and therefore being away from home can make the holidays a very stressful, emotionally charged period. Feelings of sadness, loneliness and isolation are completely normal but also very overwhelming. We have some useful tips in order to deal with those feelings and feel connected to family and loved ones.
Let’s start by connecting with people! Companies should ensure that seafarers will have excellent Internet connection so that they can arrange zoom calls with their families and feel close and connected to them. But let’s not forget that connection doesn’t only have to happen with the people who are back home. It is also important to help connect seafarers with each other. Some activities they could try are:
Make Christmas cards and send them to their families or to colleagues
Plan a few Christmas movie nights
Keep a journal with experiences and moments from sea that you wish to share with your family once you are reunited
Play board games with colleagues
Organize Karaoke nights
Make a collage with your favorite photos of family and friends and exchange stories with your colleagues
What makes the holidays special are the traditions that we value and share, and remind us of joyful moments with our loved ones.
Christmas is often a time of reflection and as we get closer to the new year, we always think about what we accomplished and setting our new year’s resolutions. Take some time to think about everything that you are happy and grateful for and also what you would like to improve and change in the new year.
Use Christmas decorations to elevate mood and get in the Christmas spirit
Offer nice meals with traditional Christmas food
Take photos and videos and share them through social media
Spend time reading Christmas books or Christmas stories
Sign Christmas carols, signing is linked to an elevated mood
With the new year, let’s focus on cultivating more gratitude. Gratitude in advance is the most powerful creative force in the universe. Expressing thankfulness in advance is the way of all Masters. So do not wait for a thing to happen and then give thanks. Give thanks before it happens, and watch energies swirl!
IMEQ Center wishes Happy Holidays & a Happy New Year to all the seafarers in the world!
