Wishes for a Bright Holiday Season and a Happy New Year! The holidays are a time where we all wish to spend joyful moments with our families, friends and loved ones and therefore being away from home can make the holidays a melancholic and emotionally difficult time. Feelings of sadness, loneliness and isolation are completely normal but can also become overwhelming. Our team has put together some valuable tips and tricks to help you deal with those feelings and feel connected with your family and loved ones.
The first and most important step is to feel connected to the people you care about. Being away at sea, does not mean that you have to be disconnected. Calling your loved ones often can be a great way to stay connected. But let’s not forget that connection doesn’t only have to happen with the people who are back home. It is also important to connect with your colleagues. Some activities that you could try onboard include:
Make Christmas cards and send them to your families or colleagues
Plan a few Christmas movie nights and play board games onboard
Keep a journal with experiences and moments from sea that you wish to share with your families once you are reunited
Make a creative collage with your favorite photos of family and friends and exchange stories with your colleagues
The holidays are special because of traditions that we value and all share with our families. That’s why you could bring some of your favorite holiday traditions onboard. We’ve got a few ideas to get you started:
Use Christmas decorations to elevate your mood and get in the Christmas spirit
Take photos and videos and share them through social media with your families
Spend time reading Christmas books or Christmas stories
Watch your favorite holiday movies
Sing Christmas carols, studies show that singing is linked to an elevated mood
Christmas is often a time of reflection and as we get closer to the new year, we always spend some time thinking about what went well during the past year and setting our new year’s resolutions. Write down what you wish to accomplish in the new year. This is a great way to end the year.
This time of the year, is another great opportunity to consider all the things that you are happy and grateful for and also the things that would like to improve and change in your life. Gratitude teaches your body emotionally that the event you’re grateful for has already happened, because we usually give thanks after a desirable event has occurred. Gratitude, therefore, is the ultimate state of receivership. Feeling grateful in advance. Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion to clarity. Let’s think about a few things that we can be grateful for, every single day.
With the new year, let’s focus on cultivating more gratitude. Gratitude in advance is the most powerful creative force in the universe. Expressing thankfulness in advance is the way of all Masters. So do not wait for a thing to happen and then give thanks. Give thanks before it happens, and watch energies swirl.
IMEQ Center wishes Merry and Bright Holidays & a Happy New Year to all the seafarers in the world!
